Current Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

HB 805 - Current law requires parents or legal guardians to provide a minimum of 20 hours of driver training in order for a child to obtain a temporary instruction permit and intermediate driver's license. The parent or legal guardian must sign an application stating that they will provide such training in order for the child to obtain the permit. This act gives instructors of persons enrolled in a federal residential job training program the authority to sign the application for a temporary instruction permit stating the applicant will receive 20 hours behind-the- wheel driving instruction. The act clarifies that any person who has a temporary instruction permit and is a participant in a federal residential job training program may operate a motor vehicle accompanied by a driver training instructor.

This act is similar to a provision contained in SB 36 , HB 477, HB 648 (2001).
